Improving Student Vocabulary Mastery by Using Game on the Third Grade Student of MI Miftahul Huda Sampang

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
            In this chapter, the introduction is the devoted to discuss about: background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study, significance of the study, scope and limitation, definition of the key term.
1.1    Background of the study
            English is the most popular language in the word. In fact, English is the international language. Most of people us it as communication to other people in the word. So that is very country make compulsory for the English education at school .there many kids of technique in language teaching. There many ways to make students understand in English foreign language. Teachers should choose one of them to select on their teaching learning activity in the class. The must know which one that appropriate with the students environment. It will be easier for the students to understand in using English as a foreign language.
            Teaching and learning is process of tanking the information or material and there are interaction between teacher and students here the creativity of teacher is badly needed, especially to optimizing the use of media in teaching and learning process.
       To make the student interested in learning English , the teacher should be creative in preparing the material and also should be able to stimulate the student’sinterest. It is not enough to use only textbook but teacher also need some instructional media to support the teaching and learning process.(Yuliana,2007:2)
            As a teacher of the fourth grade MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG.the researcher found some problems concerning the students’ English vocabulary. The problems are as follows.
1.      Students vocabulary mastery is low.
Students in class still have difficulties in mastering basic English vocabulary, although the teacher  has thought them about basic English vocabulary for 1 year in the same Scholl
2. Students are reluctant and discouraged to speak in target language. The students are lack of confidence to speaker English because they do not have enough vocabularies to speak up and tend to be nervous.
       3   .The teachers is not graduated of English language. So the teacher difficulty of     technique in explanation material and the students are getting bored easily because   the teacher only used the textbook.
            The teacher is difficult to explain the material in the procees of teaching and the students getting bored.The researcher is greatly to us game to improve the vocabulary grade MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG.knowing the importance and the effectiveness of using visual media in teaching English.
            By using game, the teacher can make teaching process running well and the students enjoy the lesson. In the class is going to be an attractive and interactive class. The students can take the main point of the lesson when they use game, the teacher also successful in managing the students.
            Based on the explanation above,the researcher is interested in applying game as media to teach thirth grade students at MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG,because the researcher found same problems concerning the student’s English vocabulary.
1.2    Statement of the problem
            Base on the background of the study, this classroom action research deal with use of game to improve the student’s vocabulary grade MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG.the problem of the study can be formulated as follow:
                        How can game improve the student’s vocabulary mastery on the third grade students of MI Miftahul Huda Sampang?
1.3    Objective of the study
      The objective of the study is:
        To describe how game can improve the student’s vocabulary mastery on the third grade students of MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG.
1.4    Significance of the study
            The researcher has some expectations from this study for students, teacher and other researchers as follow:
1.      The Result of the study is expected to be useful for the improvement of teaching English instruction, especially at MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG.
2.      The study is expected to be useful for the other researchers to make more studies on the teaching game.this result of research can be use as a related research for the next researcher.
1.5    Scope and limitation
The researcher focuses on the teaching English for young learners by using game. It is to improve the student’s vocabulary. esspecially, for students of MI MIFTAHUL HUDA SAMPANG as the subject of this study.
1.6       Definition of the key term
            In order to avoid misunderstanding or get the same perception of the terms used in the study, the following definitions are given:
1.      Improving is processing of becoming or making something better in learning vocabulary. In this case, the improvement refers to improve the student’s vocabulary mastery.
2.       Vocabulary is the student’s ability to use English in context with shown by students vocabulary score. The higher vocabulary score, the wide vocabulary they have.
3.      Game is an effective way in English learning process in order to make the students enjoy and also interested. So that game is one of way to give easier in learning vocabulary.
